Facebook Goes Green?

With the pollution of the Earth and the pressure from environmental companies to preserve the earth more and more companies are transferring to clean sources of energy.
We can just hope they will transfer as soon as possible as pollution is becoming a great issue.
One of those companies seems to be the most famous social network in the world, Facebook.
Facebook has started its Green Project a month ago, which is quite late according to Greenpeace.
With the number of companies, data centers and utilities Facebook owns, they should have done that a long time ago.
They have recently created Facebook Green Page which so far has only 17,000 fans as people are skeptics about this.
The question is why did Facebook wait so long to transfer to green technology and is this move now just a stunt for the public to defend themselves from the pressure that is coming from Greenpeace or is this truly a genuine effort to protect the environment? According to analysts, Facebook now has 20% of their operations run on green tech.
That is still a small percentage and they claim that a large share of their operations will be run on green technology by the end of next year.
Greenpeace is still not satisfied especially because of the newly opened data center in Oregon powered by Pacific Power which draws most of its energy sources from coal.
We can all hope that Facebook is really going green, to confirm that their efforts are genuine they have partnered with the Alliance to Save Energy, DESC - Digital Energy Solutions Campaign and the Green Grid.
Facebook promised to give $500,000 advertising credits to Alliance to Save Energy to promote their new website.
It doesn't matter if Facebook is late as long as they are truly committed to go green.
So far their month long active campaign has influenced many other internet companies to turn green and we shouldn't underestimate the power of Facebook to influence others.
Their decision alone to go green can start a great change in the online industry and green technology.
