    Greenery

    • Use natural garland for mantels, doorways, banisters and tables. You can keep it simple by adding the touch of a beautiful Christmas bow or dress it up by weaving strands of popcorn, cranberries and dried apples in with the garland. When decorations are ready to be taken down, simply hang the garland outside in a nearby tree to feed hungry wildlife.

    Lighting

    • Lights aren't limited to trees. Consider using white or colored lights on indoor plants to add holiday spirit. Christmas lights can also be intertwined with garland. Fill a glass gallon jar with lights, cinnamon sticks, and hard Christmas candy, top with a bow to hide the cord. For enhanced fragrance, use scented oil on the cinnamon sticks before placing in the jar. Candles in windows, on mantles and throughout the cabin are warm, inviting and romantic. Tapered candles are cheaper than glass-filled candles and can be used in mason jars, held in place by a mixture of white and red dried beans or cranberries.

    Simple Decorations

    • Tying Christmas bows onto everyday items is an easy way to decorate for Christmas. Consider using red, green or plaid bows on banisters, mantle ends, magazine racks, lamp bases, and items in the kitchen. Fill a basket with pine cones, apples, oranges and lemons and tie a bow to the handle. Spruce up ordinary cabin decor by using holiday ribbon or fabric. Make a gingerbread house and decorate using items that wildlife will appreciate after the holiday season has passed.

    Tree Decorations

    • Tree decorations can be kept natural and simple, depending on your theme. Hand-strung popcorn, alternating with cranberries and tying cinnamon sticks intermittently is beautiful, bio-degradable, and can serve the purpose of feeding hungry birds and other wildlife after the holiday has passed. Clove-studded oranges are one of the most fragrant of ornaments and can be tied with ribbon onto sturdy tree branches. Dip the tips of pine cones in melted white chocolate to add the appearance of snow on your tree. Before chocolate has set up completely, sprinkle with coconut. Make cinnamon-clove cookies in holiday shapes with a hole at the top for a hanging and decorate with colorful icing.
