How To Get a K-3 Visa
- 1). Submit form I-130, an immigrant Petition for Alien Relative, to your local USCIS office. This form must be submitted by the American citizen. Use the USCIS office locator tool in Resources to find the office that serves your area. Wait for form I-797, a notice of action, to be mailed to you.
- 2). Submit form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé, to the USCIS mailing address. The American citizen should submit this with proof of marriage validity, such as a marriage certificate, and a copy of form I-797. Wait for a receipt and notice of approval to be sent to the U.S. citizen. At this time, the approved petition will be forwarded to the U.S. Embassy in the country where the marriage took place.
- 3). Apply for the K-3 visa at the U.S. Embassy handling the visa petition. The application, form DS-156, must be accompanied by a checklist of documents. View the required documents on the Department of State website. The applicant will receive a visa interview appointment.
- 4). Complete the required medical examination per the U.S. Embassy's requirements. Your embassy will give you specific requirements for your medical examination.
- 5). Attend the interview with the U.S. Consulate. Bring any supporting documents, such as a marriage license, birth certificate or translated documents, to the interview. Allow the consular officer to review your paperwork. Once your application is approved, your K-3 visa will be issued.
