    • 1). Install a gas GE dryer by connecting one end of the flexible gas line to the port in the back of the dryer. Use teflon tape to seal the threads and tighten the connection. Connect the other end of the line to your gas supply or shutoff valve, and tighten using pipe wrenches. Turn the gas line on and check for leaks on the connectors with the soap solution. Retighten the connectors if needed. Plug the cord on the back of the dryer into a grounded outlet.

    • 2). Hook up an electric GE dryer by connecting the dryer cord, or pigtail, to the back of the dryer. You may need to remove an access panel on the back of the dryer. Connect the two "hot" wires to the marked screws. Connect the neutral wire to the third screw. If you are using a four-prong dryer cord, the fourth wire, the ground, connects to the green-colored screw. Plug the cord into your wall outlet.

    • 3). Connect the venting for your dryer. One end of the four-inch ducting should be secured to a piece routed outside through your wall; the other should connect to the back of the dryer. Avoid unnecessarily crimping or bending the duct as you maneuver it into place. Use the hose clamps to tighten the duct to each of the connecting pieces.

    • 4). Level the dryer by tightening and loosening the feet. Check for the dryer to be stable on your floor. Ensure any packaging materials are removed from the inside of the dryer.

    • 5). Test your dryer by turning it on a cycle with no clothes inside. Open the door after a few minutes of this empty cycle. The inside of the drum should be warm.
