    • 1). Trip the circuit breaker at the fuse box to discontinue the electric power to the wall where the three-way wall switch is to be added.

    • 2). Remove the screw or screws from the wall switch cover plate using a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Pull the plate off. If the plate sticks, insert the edge of a flat-edged screwdriver beneath the plate at one side and pry the plate off the wall.

    • 3). Loosen the screws on the top and bottom of the switch that are inside the wall using the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Pull the switch out of the wall.

    • 4). Loosen the screws on the switch that the wires inside the wall are wrapped around using the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Unwrap the wires from the screws. Place the switch aside.

    • 5). Loosen the two screws on the left and the one screw on the right of the three-way switch using the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 6). Wind the end of the black wire coming from the hole around the top left screw on the left side of the switch. Wind the end of the white wire from the hole around the screw below the top left screw. Wind the red wire from the hole around the screw on the right side of the switch. Tighten the screws.

    • 7). Push the wires into the hole. Place the three-way switch against the hole. Screw metal screws through the top and bottom holes in the switch using the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 8). Place the wall plate back on the wall, over the switch. Reattach the screw or screws. Restore the electric power.
