How to Make a Grommet for a Drapery

    • 1). Measure the window for width and length. Double the width to get the proper amount of fabric. Add to the length the seam allowance at the top and the bottom hem.

    • 2). Sew together the drapery fabric and lining materials to form rectangular panels for each side of the window.

    • 3). Turn the panel over to the back side. Pin the grommet tape 5/8-inch down from the top of the panel. Position the tape so the end grommets are approximately 2 inches in from each end of the panel. Sew the top and bottom edges of the tape to the back of the drape.

    • 4). Working from the back side of the panel, cut out the center of each grommet. Apply Fray-Check to keep the fabric from unraveling.

    • 5). Turn the panel over and snap the front of the grommet into place.

    • 6). String the panel onto the rod and adjust the plastic tabs on the grommet tape so that each fold looks the same.

    • 7). Prepare the other panel in the same manner, and hang your new drapes.
