- 1). Make an outline of your story. You only have a week to make the movie, so you won't have time to write a full screenplay, nor will your actors have time to memorize a lot of action and dialogue. An outline will help you keep your story on track. Include a list of characters with your outline that gives a brief personality overview. Keep the story and your characters to a minimum. Choose people to act in your movie you know are good at making it up on the spot. Most of your week will be devoted to shooting your movie; the fewer actors you have to contend with, the more time you can spend filming your movie.
- 2). Keep your locations to a minimum. This will reduce travel time and expense. Tell your story in one or two local settings. Brief your actors on the scene just before shooting it. Since nothing is written out, your actors will need to do a lot of improvisation. Give your actors 30 to 60 minutes to rehearse their scene, then turn the camera on and shoot the scene. Try to shoot your movie in five days, which leaves you a couple of days to add special effects and finish the movie.
- 3). Use video editing software to rearrange the scenes of your movie, apply transitions, and add special effects. There are a lot of video editing programs available. Adobe Premier and Apple's Final Cut are two of the more expensive programs. Serif's MoviePlus is effective and more affordable. Consider spending as much as you can afford to get good video editing software. A movie shot in a week will need all the help it can get to look good, so the more you can do in the editing process, the better off your movie will look.
