How to Apply Teflon Tape

1). Wipe the threaded male end of the pipe with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any dust, debris and water.
2). Tear off a strip of Teflon tape that is approximately four times the diameter of the pipe. For example, if the pipe is 1 inch in diameter, you will need a 4-inch piece of tape.
3). Wrap the Teflon tape around the pipe threads, making sure that you are wrapping in a clockwise direction and stretching the tape slightly as you wrap. Continue in this manner until the threads are covered in tape, overlapping each turn to cover completely.
4). Attach the corresponding female nut or other connection to the Teflon-covered end of the pipe, tightening snugly with a pipe wrench or adjustable wrench.
5). Test your connection by turning on the water source and looking for leaks or drips. If the connection is leaking, tighten the nut one quarter turn at a time until the leak stops.
