How to Crochet Openwork
- 1). Crochet a foundation chain of 26 chain stitches using the crochet thread and steel crochet hook. The final chain stitch is the turning chain for row one. Turn the work.
- 2). Crochet one single crochet stitch into each stitch of the foundation chain for row one. Work three chain stitches for the turning chain for row two. Turn the work.
- 3). Insert the hook into the third single crochet stitch of row one. Crochet three chain stitches, then slip the hook into the third stitch from the hook. Continue crocheting three chain stitches and slipping the hook into the third stitch from the hook to the end of row two. Crochet three chain stitches for the row three turning chain and turn the work.
- 4). Continue working mesh stitches by crocheting three chain stitches, then inserting the hook into the third stitch from the hook until you have an openwork textile piece measuring 4 inches by 4 inches. Fasten off and cut the yarn with the scissors.
- 5). Weave the ends in neatly using a tapestry needle.
