1). Wear gardening gloves, long sleeves, long pants, socks and closed-toe shoes or boots. Tuck your pants legs into your socks and your sleeves into your gloves to ensure better coverage.
2). Trim back the leaves and stems of the plant. Dispose of them in a sealed plastic bag in a trash can.
3). Cover the entire plant site using a tarp, newspaper, mulch or cardboard. Weight the covering down, using gardening tools or sandbags.
4). Leave the area covered until the plant is killed. Time will vary, so check periodically.
5). After killing the plant, remove all stems and leaves.
6). Dig up the roots by digging the ground around where the plant grew. Remove all roots to ensure it does not grow back.
7). Use plastic bags and gloves to grasp roots and remove them.
8). Place all the roots in a plastic bag, and seal it before disposing of it in a trash can.
