Must See TV
Wouldn't you say my 20 plus shows of DVR recording per week qualify me? That being said, I find it terribly unsatisfactory that I can't discuss many of my favorite shows with some of my friends and family members.
With access to over 1,000 channels, how can people be so clueless about all the programming that's readily available to consume our every waking hour? I've concluded that maybe it's because there is so much to choose from.
People are literally overwhelmed with the choices.
To help streamline the choices a little, I'm going to offer a primer on the best and the worst from my DVR's library.
The way I see it, there are only two types of television shows.
Let's explore the first.
Mindless TV (no brain cells required)
- Kendra - She's surprisingly refreshing.
I like that she's more of an "around the way girl" than your average Hollywood type.
Her hubby is cute and seems to be genuinely in love with her and they just produced the most beautiful little baby boy, it's worth watching just to catch a few glimpses of him. - Bad Girls Club - I'm actually a little embarrassed to admit I watch this.
And I really can't say why I do.
Admittedly, I was somewhat of a bad girl myself when I was these girls' age so maybe I'm reliving my youth. - America's Next Top Model - In 15 seasons we've yet to see a mega, haute couture model come out of this franchise but it's fun (and often funny) watching Miss Jay as he seems to be living out his own fantasy of being a super model.
If I didn't know any better, I would be convinced he invented the runway walk. - The Bachelor/Bachelorette - Although it appears at least 2 successful marriages have come out of this franchise, the whole concept of the show is way too laughable to take seriously.
Of course, if you were the Bachelor or Bachelorette, you too would "think" you were falling in love, constantly being whisked away on romantic dates to exotic locations with hot men or women.
All the conditions for falling in love are exactly right for 2 weeks.
Then "the one" is chosen, which is usually the very one viewers like myself were hoping would not be chosen.
By the reunion show (which is taped roughly 3 months after the final episode), the relationship is over because the couple suddenly realized they weren't really that much in love. - Giuliana & Bill - I feel guilty for even putting this show in the mindless category, but it's here only because it's like watching myself and hubby.
I really don't have to think much while watching this show.
It's basically our life playing out on the small screen minus the money and fame, living in separate cities and Giuliana being at least 1000 pounds smaller than me.
But everything else about the show is sooo similar to us.
Really, it is.
