How to Install Wood Shutters on Brick
- 1). Measure 1 inch in from the window pane, onto the brick siding, with a tape measure. Mark this spot where you'll hang the shutter, using a carpenter's pencil or chalk. Place one of the shutters flush to the brick in this marked spot and place a level on top of the shutter to ensure it's level. Mark the spot with a horizontal line to use as a guideline.
- 2). Mark each of the drill holes on the shutter with the carpenter's pencil or chalk. Load the drill bit into the chuck and secure it. Drill into the brick, into the marked spots on the wall where you drew the shutter's attachment holes.
- 3). Drill the holes to about 1½ inch deep to ensure the holes will accommodate the weight of the shutter pane. Set the drill aside and place the anchors into each hole; if need be, hammer each anchor into the depth of the holes until the anchors are no longer visible.
- 4). Place the shutter pane in place and align the holes in the pane over the holes in the brick; screw each screw into the holes until they're firmly inside the sunken anchors, using the drill or a screwdriver. Lightly tug on the attached shutter pane to ensure it's securely inside the anchor. Follow the steps again to attach the remaining shutters.
