How to Disassemble a Peerless Shower Faucet
- 1). Twist the knob clockwise on the main water valve in the household until tight. This prevents water from spewing out of the Peerless shower faucet while you work.
- 2). Take out the two Phillips head screws on the sides of the round cover plate (escutcheon) below the handle where it connects to the faucet, using a screwdriver. Pull the plate and the trim sleeve forward.
- 3). Remove the set screw to the left of the shower handle, using an Allen wrench, to take off the handle, trim sleeve and escutcheon. You can now see the exposed valve cylinder assembly.
- 4). Grab the top O-ring surrounding the valve with the tip of a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the rubber part.
- 5). Pull out the metal clip that holds the Peerless cartridge in place, using the pliers.
- 6). Grip the stem on the end of the Peerless valve cartridge with the pliers and pull straight out of the faucet socket. The entire cartridge can be replaced with a new part available at plumbing shops and from Peerless. The cartridge is designed to be installed and replaced as one unit.
