How to Optimize Windows' Startup Time
- 1). Click "Start" and then select "All Programs." Right-click the folder labeled "Startup," and then select "Show All Users."
- 2). View the programs in the Startup menu. These are the programs that start automatically when you power up your computer. Right-click any programs that don't need to start automatically; this may include media programs, games and browsers.
- 3). Click "Delete" after right-clicking on the desired program. This will remove the program from the Startup folder. In the future, when you computer starts, you'll need to initiate the program manually in order to use it, rather than relying on the program initiating at startup.
- 4). Run antivirus software to ensure that a virus, spyware or malware isn't slowing down your computer's startup. Since many viruses start automatically when your computer is powered on, they could be contributing to slow startup without the benefit of seeing them in the Startup menu.
- 5). Restart your computer for the changes to take place.
