    UNCF

    • The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) provides hundreds of college grants to black students of all disciplines. These grants aren't restricted to undergrads, either: students pursuing a master's degree or higher may also obtain a grant. You can sort through the UNCF's grants by state, title, level in school, major, academic achievement level or any combination of these. As of 2011, seminary, religion, philosophy and religion education are all majors for which the UNCF offers financial aid.

    The Fund for Theological Education

    • The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) offers financial aid for first-year seminarians through partnerships with FTE and congregations; for first-year seminarians who participate in faith-based programs through the Volunteers Exploring Vacation Initiative; and to second-year seminarians. First-year seminarians may qualify for up to $5,000 to aid with tuition and school expenses, while second-year seminarians may obtain $10,000 to use toward their education. Apply for any of these seminary grants at the FTE website.

    American Association of University Women

    • The American Association of University Women (AAUW) funds graduate education for women in a variety of programs of study. For example, the AAUW's American Fellowships program awards up to $30,000 to women who are academically successful and committed to improving the lives of women and girls through their work. These women must be enrolled at an accredited college and be U.S. citizens. Apply for an American Fellowship or one of the AAUW's other grant programs at the association's website.

    Government Aid

    • The highly competitive Truman Scholarship program grants money to undergraduate students who plan to attend graduate school and work in the public or nonprofit sector upon graduation. Apply at the Truman Scholarship website.

If you meet low-income guidelines and are pursuing your undergraduate degree, the federal Pell Grant can help. The Pell Grant awards up to $5,550 per student each award year, as long as the student is enrolled in school at least half time. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) awards additional grant money to Pell Grant-eligible students who demonstrate extreme financial need. Apply for undergraduate federal aid at the Federal Student Aid website.
