How to Repair a Power Cord
- 1). Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet. Do not attempt the repair with the power cord plugged into an electrical outlet.
- 2). Cut off the plug from the end of the power cord using wire cutters. Make the cut as close to plug as possible.
- 3). Separate the two wires on the power cord using a utility knife.
- 4). Strip the insulation about 2 inches off of both wires.
- 5). Pry off the cover from the plug part of the replacement plug. Insert the wires from the power cord all the way through the cover and let the cover slide down the power cord.
- 6). Loosen the screws on the replacement plug. Wrap a stripped wire from the power cord around each screw on the plug and tighten the screws with a screwdriver. Pull the plug cover up to the plug and snap the two pieces together.
