How to Install Insulation Batts in a Finished Attic
- 1). Measure the first stud of the open wall of the attic, bottom to top, along the side, from the top of the floor plate to the peak of the attic ceiling.
- 2). Pull out a tape measure on the floor to the measurement you took. Roll out batt insulation to the measurement. Cut it by laying a level over it at the point of the measurement, pressing it down and cutting along the level with a utility knife.
- 3). Hold the top of the cut piece up to the top of the space between the studs (to the peak of the attic), with the paper side facing out. Shoot two staples through each side of the paper into the sides of the studs on either side near the front-facing edge of the studs. The strip of fiberglass should be left hanging from the peak.
- 4). Work your way down the piece with the stapler, tucking it back into the cavity between the studs as you go. Put in two staples at a time, about an inch apart.
- 5). Continue until you've secured the piece entirely from the peak to the floor. Repeat for the space between each set of studs.
