Formation of McFly:

London-based McFly were put together around lead vocalist Tom Fletcher who had failed an audition to be part of the teen pop band Busted. In 2003 McFly collaborated with Busted on the B-side "Crashed the Wedding" and toured with them around the UK. When McFly's first single "5 Colours in Her Hair" was released in the UK in the spring of 2004 it debuted at #1.

Pop Chart Success:

McFly followed their #1 debut with a second #1, "Obviously," in the summer of 2004. Their first album Room on the 3rd Floor also debuted at #1 making them the youngest band in UK history to debut at #1 on the albums chart. McFly's chart success has continued with 7 more successive top 10 pop singles, including 3 #1's and a second #1 album Wonderland released in August, 2005.

The Sound of McFly:

McFly have distinguised their sound from that of the typical boy band by borrowing from classic pop-rock of the 60's and the 70's including touches from groups ranging from the Beach Boys to the Raspberries. McFly give their sound the name Nu-Pop.

Quote from Dougie Poynter of McFly:

On his opinion of being asked questions like "What is your favorite color?" by FemaleFirst:

"Yeah I get really sick of that. No offence to them or anything, but when your recording a new album, or have spent time putting so much effort into it, you want to be asked questions about the recording and the writing and what the lyrics mean."

Trivia Fact About McFly:

Tom Fletcher's favorite female singer is Avril Lavigne.

McFly Strip Down for "Please, Please":

McFly caused a great stir in entertainment circles in the UK with their July, 2006 single "Please, Please" packaged with a remake of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." The video for "Please, Please" featured the band performing while, apparently, stripped naked. When the single became the band's 5th #1 they celebrated by performing in the buff at London's nightclub G-A-Y. The band plans to release their 3rd studio album in November, 2006.
