How to Recover a Lost Password in Word 2003
- 1). Download the Office Password Recovery Pro (see References). Once the file is downloaded, install it and launch the application.
- 2). Click on "Open" from the top menu on the window. Browse and open the document for which you want to retrieve the password. As you open the file, the Office Password Recovery wizard will automatically launch.
- 3). Select the option "Recover the password to open." Now click "OK."
- 4). Follow the steps that are shown by the password recovery wizard. You will be asked questions regarding the document, but if you are not sure of the answers, just leave the fields and click "Next."
- 5). Click "Finish" to end the wizard. The password recovery tool will then start digging for the password. Once it recovers it successfully, it will display it on the dashboard of the application.
- 6). Open the document on MS Word and enter the recovered password.

- 2). Install Windows Installer and .NET Framework on your computer. These two components are essential for installing the password recovery wizard. You can download and install them by clicking on the links provided in the Resources.
- 3). Install the password recovery wizard after installing the required components mentioned in the above step. For installing the wizard, simply right-click on the downloaded file, select "Extract" from the WinZip archive to the hard disk and double-click on the extracted file. The extracted file is FreeWordExcelPasswordWizard.msi.
- 4). Launch the installed application. Click on "Select File" and browse to open the password-protected file. Click on "Brute Force Recovery." Select the characters that you want to try on the password. Also, select the starting and finishing length of the possible password that you have forgotten. Then click "Go." The application will try every possible combination of the characters until it finds the correct password.

- 2). Double-click the downloaded file and follow the installation instructions to install it.
- 3). Launch the application. Under "Word Document Name," click on the browse button and open the password-protected file.
- 4). Click on "Open Document in Microsoft Word." The application will crack the password and open the document. Keep in mind that this application simply disables the protection of the document, which means when you open the document the next time, it will not ask for the password.
