Regular activities like bathing or taking a shower in hot water rob the skin of its natural oils. The better option: warm water and shorter bath or shower time. Focusing on a weight loss program need to be harmonized with an exercise program to firm up muscles and sagging skin.

Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize (CTM)

For women, maintaining their time-tested cleansing, toning and moisturizing (CTM) ritual is one good anti-aging skincare habit. Now, however, the materials have to be improved if one is past 40. They should be products that are particularly produced for middle-aged women and older.

In the cleansing process, facial washing should not be overdone (twice daily is okay) because soaps strip the skin of its natural oils. Shaving creams nowadays not only provide lubrication, they also work as skin moisturizers.

For the 40-year-plus crowd, toners should be replaced with options that are gentler. This prevents the unwanted elimination of one's natural chemicals. Completely removing the toners may disrupt the skin's pH balance. Ultimately, moisturizers with antioxidants fight off free radicals in the skin.

Additional Tips

Today's trend in exfoliation (an old means of removing dead skin cells to expose new young cells) includes the now popular micro-dermabrasion treatment. Some commercial products have added anti-aging vitamin variants. The old exfoliant using sea salt or sugar, however, are just as good.
