How to Make Silver-Plated Flatware Shine
- 1). Line a nonmetal container or bowl large enough to submerge the silverware with aluminum foil. The shiny side of the aluminum must face up toward you.
- 2). Set the flatware on top of the aluminum foil but avoid allowing any of the utensils to touch.
- 3). Pour 1/4 cup of washing soda over the flatware.
- 4). Pour boiling water over the flatware until you fill the container completely. Stir the solution so that the washing soda dissolves.
- 5). Allow the flatware to sit for 15 minutes. Remove the flatware with tongs, rinse each utensil and dry the flatware with a soft washcloth.
- 1). Line a container with the flatware. Place the flatware in the container so that it does not touch.
- 2). Combine 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 2 tbsp. of baking soda in the container.
- 3). Allow the flatware to soak for two to three hours.
- 4). Remove the utensils and rinse them under cold water.
- 5). Dry the flatware with a soft washcloth.
- 1). Dampen a washcloth with warm water.
- 2). Sprinkle baking soda over the washcloth.
- 3). Rub the washcloth over the flatware to remove any tarnish.
- 4). Rinse the flatware with clean water.
- 5). Dry the utensils with a soft washcloth.
