How to Make an Ottoman Pillow
- 1). Measure the length and width of the ottoman you want to cover.
- 2). Cut a piece of foam with that length and width using a serrated cutting knife. An electric carving knife can also be used to cut foam cleanly.
- 3). Add 1 inch to both the width and height measurements found earlier to determine fabric size. Cut out two pieces of fabric using these measurements.
- 4). Measure the width of the foam. Cut four strips of fabric that are as wide as this measurement. Two of the strips should be square and two should be as long as the length measurement from Step 3.
Sew the four strips to one of the large rectangles of fabric along the edge with the pattern side in. Sew these to the sides that match the measurements. - 5). Sew the corner strips together on only two of the corners. You are essentially creating what looks like a shallow fabric box.
- 6). Sew the last large rectangle of fabric to three of the strips, pattern side facing inward. Leave one of the strips open on three sides so the foam can be placed inside.
Turn the fabric box inside out. - 7). Push the foam into the cover. Take the time to smooth out any wrinkles and to ensure the foam fits well in the cover.
- 8). Pull the free strip of fabric closed over the foam and push the raw edges down, folding these inside the cushion neatly.
- 9). Sew the cushion closed by overcasting a line of stitches along the edges of the flap.
