How to Run Basketball Drills
- 1). Include many dozens of repetitions for every fundamental. Drills can include the following: shooting balls from spots across the court, passing balls to and from different spots, dribbling around cones at different speeds and defending each offensive move.
- 2). Do drills at full speed to ensure that your players can perform all of the fundamentals in game conditions.
- 3). Do drills at moderate and slow speeds to ensure that your players are correctly performing the fundamentals with all of the necessary actions and movements.
- 4). Conduct role playing drills where one player acts as a defender and one as an offensive player.
- 5). Conduct drills that place players in real game situations with each fundamental. You can have players practice a shot with a defender on them, pass to another player in a certain position, rebound over another player or guard an offensive position.
- 6). Conduct drills with and without a basketball to ensure your players are focusing on fundamentals as well as ball handling.
