    • 1). Call the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles office. Ask the representative about obtaining a title for an antique car manufactured prior to the issuance of Vehicle Identification Numbers. Ask the DMV to mail a vehicle registration form to you.

    • 2). Refer to the bill of sale or use the engine number to complete the vehicle registration application. In some states, you may need a notarized statement from the seller or probate documents that show the car is a family heirloom.

    • 3). Complete the vehicle registration application and visit the local DMV office. Submit the application, pay the registration fee and get a title.
