    • 1). Put on the safety glasses, then lay the towel down on a bench.

    • 2). Push the magazine release located on the grip and pull out the magazine.

    • 3). Retract the slide all the way back and push up on the slide stop lever to engage the forward-most notch on the left side of the slide. Inspect the chamber to ensure that there are no live rounds.

    • 4). Look down into the frame from the top and locate the ejector on the left side of the frame. Push the ejector down.

    • 5). Pull back slightly on the slide and allow the slide stop to disengage from the slide lock notch. Gently ease the slide forward until the rear-most notch on the slide is in line with the slide stop lever. Pull the slide stop out of the frame.

    • 6). Push the slide forward off the frame.

    • 7). Turn the slide upside down and locate the recoil spring and guide rod. Grab the guide rod by the locking block and lift it up and out, along with the recoil spring. Lift the barrel up and out of the slide.

    • 8). The gun is now disassembled for cleaning. To reassemble it, follow the takedown procedure in reverse.
