How to Sew a Decorative Pillow
- 1). Lay a sheet of newspaper out flat. Use a marker to draw the exact size and shape that you'd like your pillow to be; add 1 inch to the length and width to use for the seam.
- 2). Cut out the pattern, using a pair of scissors.
- 3). Fold the fabric in half. Pin the pattern to the fabric. Carefully cut the fabric out of the pattern. You should have two identical pieces of fabric.
- 4). Decorate the outside of the fabric as you choose: hot glue embellishments such as jewels and buttons, sew on patches or appliques with a needle and thread.
- 5). Place the two pieces of fabric together, with the decorative sides facing each other. Secure the entire perimeter of the pillow ½ inch in from the edge using a needle and thread or a sewing machine. When you have 2 inches left to sew, knot the thread and cut it away from the pillow. You should now have an inside-out pillowcase.
- 6). Turn the pillowcase right side out through the 2-inch gap you left. Add stuffing to the gap until the pillow is as plush as you want.
- 7). Sew the remaining 2-inch gap shut to complete the decorative pillow.
