The Oak tree is a woody plant that comes in a variety of species.
Its fruits are called acorns and are similar to nuts.
They do well mostly in the Northern hemisphere like North America and Europe.
It has such a hard trunk that is mostly preferred for use in building houses or making furniture.
Since the 19th century, this plant has been considered a very vital material in the building industry.
This is because it has a high concentration of tannin, which makes it resistant to insects.
The wood from this plant was used to build the British House of Commons.
It did not stop here.
Many of the ships were constructed using this wood too.
Currently, it is used to make furniture and also in the construction industries.
However, this is posing a great threat to the natural forest because they are becoming depleted at an alarming rate.
Presently, only 5-10% of old forests are remaining.
Just like many other trees, this type also serves other functions like preventing soil erosion, providing home to birds and other animals and also serves as an icon for beauty.
Its barrels are used in the liquor industry to influence the taste and to make the color more appealing.
However, not all species are usable.
The French oak makes the wine more expensive, while the American one acts as a preservative.
One negative impact of the oak tree is the fact that its leaves are toxic and should therefore not be fed to horses or other animals for that matter.
The tannin can cause kidney complications.
All in all, the plant remains a symbol of culture in the history of US, Canada, Poland, Wales, France and others, since it represents strength and endurance.
