About Moringa Leaves
- Moringa trees can grow as high as 33 feet tall and have feathery, green compound leaves with ovate leaflets and white, fragrant flowers. The slender tree is sometimes known as the drumstick tree.
- The edible leaves are highly nutritious and contain considerable amounts of calcium, iron, protein, and vitamins A, B and C.
- In cooking, the spinach-like leaves are used as greens in salads or as dried seasonings in sauces. The leaves are also pounded and used as kitchen scrubbing utensils.
- Moringa leaves can be rubbed on the temples to relieve headaches or added to poultices to treat sores.
- Moringa leaves are used as feed for cattle, pigs and poultry. When the leaves constitute 50 percent of feed, dairy cow milk yields and beef cattle weight gains increased by 30 percent, according to the African University.
