How to Remove Loctite Hexagon Screws
- 1). Attempt to melt the Loctite from the back of the bolt, using a heat gun. Red and green versions of the material require high temperatures in excess of 400 degrees Fahrenheit to melt off. Blue requires less, but the heat gun still proves effective. A heat gun set to high, and held 3 to 4 inches from the adhesive should begin to melt it enough for removal.
- 2). Allow the bolt to cool completely. Apply acetone with clean rag to the threads of the bolt to remove any residual Loctite remnants.
- 3). Wipe off any residue. Using the hex or socket wrench, tighten the bolt slightly. This will break any remaining Loctite where heat and acetone failed to reach. Turn the bolt the other way to remove it.
