    • 1). Cut off as much hair as possible at the hair salon. If you have long hair, you should consider having it cut to chin length or shorter to remove the dead strands

    • 2). Deep condition your hair whenever you wash it, using a conditioner that contains proteins from keratin, wheat or soy. Hair is made of keratin proteins and these products will help to restore it close to its natural state.

    • 3). Treat your hair with olive oil or mayonnaise once a week. Coat your hair with mayonnaise and leave it in up to an hour before shampooing and conditioning. Olive oil treatments can be left in the hair overnight, covered with a plastic cap to heat the oil and allow it to penetrate deep into the hair follicles.

    • 4). Visit a local hair salon and ask them for a deep treatment. Hair stylists have access to the best quality products and can initiate a treatment that softens and detangles your hair better than store-purchased products.

    • 5). Avoid any chemical treatments on your hair, including perms, coloring and relaxing. These treatments could overprocess the hair and lead to additional damage.

    • 6). Moisturize your hair after showers by applying leave-in conditioner. Hair serum, added after the leave-in treatment, will boost the shine after it dries.

    • 7). Wash your hair less often than usual so that the natural oils can accumulate and provide moisture to dried strands. If you must shower daily, wash your hair with only conditioner six days a week and use shampoo once a week. Shampoo contains harsh ingredients that with daily use will further strip moisture from your hair.

    • 8). Avoid heat styling with hair dryers, curling irons and straightening irons.
