How to Apply Stucco Patch

    • 1). Remove any obstructions near the place to be patched.

    • 2). Lay vinyl sheeting on the floor or ground beneath the hold. Remove any loose stucco that surrounds the hole. Do this by tapping with a hammer lightly. Do not remove any stucco that is firm.

    • 3). Chisel a wedge shape around and including the site of the hole with the wide edge at the top. This acts like a vase to contain the stucco as you smooth it on to the wall. Make the wedge as small as you can around the site of the hole.

    • 4). Look at the surface beneath the hole. If the underlying surface is concrete or brick, chip or score it with the hammer and chisel to make it rougher so that it can hold the patch better. If wooden studs covered with wire mesh and topped with paper are beneath the stucco, make sure the paper is intact. If the paper is torn, remove enough stucco to find the two parallel studs. The paper is tacked to them over the mesh. Tear off the damaged paper and tack on a fresh piece.

    • 5). Trowel a thin coat of the premixed stucco patch onto the prepared surface with the trowel. As it slides into the wedge, work it back up until it is smooth and covers the entire wedge. Let it dry slightly and then drag the tooth edge of the trowel over the work. Mist the surface with water from a spray bottle every five hours for 24 hours.

    • 6). Apply the second coat of stucco 3/8 inch thick with the trowel and score it lightly with the tooth edge. Mist this coat each morning and each evening for five days while you wait for the coat to set solidly. When it is cured, apply one more coat. Make this one 1/4 inch thick. Apply this with a wire comb.
