Easy to Do Wood Crafts
- Try any number of wooden crafts with Popsicle sticks. To make a box, lay 12 sticks side by side. Cover one side of a Popsicle stick with glue and press it horizontally across all the Popsicle sticks one-half of an inch from the top. Do the same at the bottom. Take four sticks and place two horizontally and two vertically so that the sticks make a square. The tips of the horizontal sticks should cover the tips of the vertical sticks. Glue this in place. Make six more squares and place on top of each other, gluing each square to the one below it. Then take your sheet of Popsicle sticks and place on top of the box. Use this box with a removable lid to store treasures, candy or small gifts.
Make a catapult with Popsicle sticks. Get a small board, a clothespin, seven sticks, a bottlecap and ping-pong ball. Cut three Popsicle sticks in half, and glue all six pieces on top of each other. Glue the clothespin to the center of the wood, and glue the sticks to the part of the clothespin that you squeeze. Glue another long Popsicle stick on to the top stick, and glue a bottle cap on the end of that stick that points away from the clothespin. Once it dries, place a ping-pong ball in the bottlecap, pull and release for a Popsicle stick catapult.
If you have many Popsicle sticks available, try constructing a wooden craft bridge. Lie several sticks lengthwise against each other in a row. Glue single sticks across these rows to hold the sticks in place. Make a long line of these sticks, ensuring that each stick is held in place. After it dries, turn it over and practice running toy vehicles over the wood bridge. - Consider making other wood crafts out of pre-bought materials. Craft stores, such as Joann Fabric and Craft Stores, have a wide selection of wood crafts for purchase. Buy a set of pre-cut wood shapes for any holiday, and decorate them with paint and markers for fun decorations around the house. For more experienced craft makers, try buying unfinished small wooden chairs, birdhouses, plaques or other itema, and paint them to make a useful piece in your home.
