How to Program a Serial Adapter
- 1). Select the "Start" or "Globe" button located in the lower-left corner of the PC desktop. Click the "Search" box, type "devmgmt.msc" and tap the "Enter" key.
- 2). Select the "+" next to the "Ports" item in the "Device Manager" window that appears in order to view the list of port devices.
- 3). Right-click on the "COM" port device listed that represents the serial adapter port just installed (there should be only one listed) and click "Properties" in the menu that appears.
- 4). Select the "Port Settings" tab and click the "Bits per second" menu box. Select the setting in the menu that is required by the serial device to which the port will connect.
- 5). Follow the same procedure by clicking the menu box and selecting the required serial port setting for "Data bits," "Parity," "Stop bits" and "Flow control." The settings displayed in the "Port Settings" tab should now match the settings of the device to which the serial port will connect. Click the "OK" button to save the settings.
