    Art Institute of Philadelphia

    • The Art Institute of Philadelphia offers several culinary courses, including cooking, a culinary associate's degree in science and a bachelor's degree in culinary management. Diplomas are offered in culinary arts and baking and pastry. All degrees prepare students for entry-level positions in restaurants, hotels and food service organizations. The private college, located in downtown Philadelphia, has over 3,500 students on campus. A bachelor's degree in culinary management extends a student's culinary education into the fields of facility and personnel management. A high school diploma or its equivalent, SAT or ACT scores, and an essay must accompany an application for admission. Grants, loans and scholarships are available.

    Yorktowne Business Institute's School of Culinary Arts

    • Located in the southern Pennsylvania town of York, and adjacent to several tourist attractions, the Yorktowne Business Institute's School of Culinary Arts offers an associate's degree program in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and food service. Teaching kitchens are on campus, and a student-run restaurant provides hands-on experience in restaurant food preparation and management. The culinary program takes about 16 months to complete. The school also offers individual cooking and baking classes for those who are interested in extending their abilities outside of a degree track. Applicants for the culinary arts program must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and pass an admissions test. Financial aid is available.

    Pennsylvania School of Culinary Arts

    • Pennsylvania School of Culinary Arts is part of the YTI Career Institute. Located in Lancaster, the school has dedicated facilities and working kitchens. An on-site restaurant allows students hands-on experience working in a realistic atmosphere. The culinary arts/restaurant management program is a 21-month course, and graduates earn an associate in specialized business degree. A 12-month pastry arts program is also available, with a diploma issued at the end of the course. Scholarships, grants and loans are available.

    JNA Institute of Culinary Arts

    • JNA Institute of Culinary Arts is in Philadelphia's historic district. It has two lab kitchens plus demonstration classrooms for instruction. A student-run restaurant is open to the public. Students can enroll in the Food Service Diploma Program or the 60-week Culinary Arts/Restaurant Management program. An overview of the hospitality industry and the business management of a facility are included in the curriculum. A high school diploma or its equivalent is required for admission. Financial aid is available.
