    Detaining a Minor

    • Police officers are allowed to temporarily detain a minor that has violated curfew laws, pursuant to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 625.5(d). Officers are also allowed to transport the minor back to his residence.

    Costs of Returning a Minor

    • Upon a California minor's second curfew violation, parents may be held liable for administrative and transportation costs associated with returning the minor, pursuant to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 625.5(d).

    Habitual Violators

    • California's juvenile courts may establish a habitual curfew violator as a ward of the court, pursuant to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 601(a).
