OSHA's Required Training for Supervisors

104 122

    General Safety

    • Federal regulation requires employers to train supervisors to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. They must understand the risks and dangers associated with the jobs they supervise, and understand how to address them.

    Specific Procedures

    • Training is also required for specific procedures such as reporting certain hazards relevant to the job or evacuating employees.

    Job-Specific Training

    • An employer must give a supervisor specialized training so that they can demonstrate to subordinates the proper way to keep the workplace safe while accomplishing the task at hand.

    Considerations

    • In the end, employers are responsible for making their workplace safe and staffing it with competent supervisors. Since each job is different, the employer must determine on his own what training is necessary to properly prepare supervisors for the job.
