How to Cut Soda Cans
- 1). Rinse out the inside of the soda can with water to get rid of any sticky liquids inside. Place it upside down to dry.
- 2). Put on a pair of leather gloves. These will protect you from sharp edges and burrs that may be created when you cut the can.
- 3). Place the can on a flat surface. Open a pair of scissors and place one blade through the side of the can. It should pierce the surface with only a little pressure. Use the scissors to snip around the top perimeter of the can. Repeat the step on the bottom perimeter of the can to create a flat piece of aluminum.
- 4). Put the aluminum piece on a flat surface you don't mind slicing into, such as a piece of scrap cardboard or a cutting board. Use a razor to slice through the metal and cut detailed shapes from the piece. Trace the razor along a design you sketched on the metal with markers, or free-hand a spiral or other shapes without a guide.
- 5). Remove any burrs or sharps edges on the aluminum shape with scissors or a razor. Round out the sides of sharp points, too, to prevent getting cut by the snipped soda can.
