Design Ideas for Jacquard Fabrics
- Use an intricate jacquard fabric as accent pillows or as bolsters in a formal living-room setting. Pillows can be made with a knife edge (a simple seam) or trimmed using cord, fringe or tassels for an extra visual punch. Search for jacquard patterns at local fabric stores or enlist the assistance of a designer to shop at "trade only" fabric showrooms. The cost will be more at the showrooms but the fabrics will also be of a better quality and more detail.
- Create a wall hanging out of a favorite jacquard weave. Tapestries are a form of jacquard weave but the wall hanging being created does not have to depict a realistic scene. It can simply be chosen because of the beautiful pattern and colors it contains. Purchase enough fabric to stitch and hang it just like a tapestry. Consider whether it might fit the décor as a framed piece (like art) and choose an ornate frame to place it in. Think about using gold, silver or copper leaf on the frame. Upholster an accent wall in the jacquard fabric instead of framing or hanging the fabric.
- Design a one-of-a-kind jacquard bedspread by using a jacquard fabric found in a showroom or fabric store. Contact a local seamstress to make the bedspread or duvet cover. If making the bedspread a do-it-yourself project, use an existing bedspread or duvet cover as a pattern, or purchase a pattern from a fabric store. McCall's and Simplicity have duvet patterns that include pillows. Mix jacquard fabrics by linking each pattern together through color, or choose a solid from the jacquard pattern to create a covering that can be flipped to change the décor.
