  • 1). Turn the main water line ball valve 90 degrees counterclockwise to shut off the flow of water to the sprinkler line. The main supply valve is often inside a basement or service panel.

  • 2). Find the sprinkler supply pipe where it exists in the home and enters the irrigation system.

  • 3). Saw off the pipe with a hacksaw so there is still at least 4 inches of pipe sticking out of the wall. This is where you will make the connection with the faucet.

  • 4). Place a female pipe thread push-to-fit adapter onto the end of the cut pipe. Press the fitting firmly over the pipe until it stops.

  • 5). Wrap the male pipe threads onto the faucet adapter with a single layer of Teflon tape. This tape will lubricate the connection.

  • 6). Screw the faucet adapter clockwise into the female adapter on the pipe until firm. Turn the faucet as much as an additional quarter turn to set the faucet in an upright position.

  • 7). Turn the ball valve on the main supply line 90 degrees clockwise to release water to the faucet. Turn the handle on the faucet to test the connection.

  • 8). Remove any pieces of the sprinkler system that you do not intend to use, including the manifold and underground piping.
