Military Flags - The Air Force Flag
This post present a few interesting facts with regards to the United States Air Force flag. It displays a coat of arms, 13 white stars and the Air Force Seal on a blue colored background. As with other flags from U.S. flagpoles, the Air Force flag also displays 13 stars, which represent the 13 original colonies. The group of stars (3) displayed in the upper or top section of the flag represent the 3 different departments of the National Defense Establishment. The American eagle is also displayed. Other elements including the cloud formation stands for or represents the creation of a new firmament. Interestingly, the indoor parade version of Air Force flags are bordered with gold colored fringe.
Military flags need to be officially adopted by a U.S. president. The Air Force flag was officially adopted by President Truman back in 1951.
Fascinatingly, if there is a period of time when the Coastguard if functioning as part of the Navy, the Coast Guard flag should precede the Air Force flag.
Military flags can be seen flying from flagpoles and such all over the world. The U.S. military is one of the largest armies in the world. To keep the military forces "up and running," the United allocates or spends close to 700 billion Dollars per year. A little less than half of these funds are spend on world military related activities.
