Removing the Drain Pump From a GE Washing Machine
- 1). Unplug the washer's power cord from the electrical outlet. Place rags around the appliance to help catch any water spills. Remove any standing water in the washtub, using a bowl to scoop it into a bucket. Remove any clothes that may still be in the washtub.
- 2). Release the spring clips that secure the front panel of the GE washer to the frame by inserting a flat head screwdriver into the seam between the top and front panels. Set the front panel off the side. Locate the drain pump at the bottom right side of the washing machine and unplug the electrical wires from the posts by pulling them off.
- 3). Disconnect the hoses from the drain pump with a pair of pliers to release the hose clamps. Remove the pump retaining bolts with a socket and ratchet. Pull the pump out of the machine then put the new one in place. Tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Plug in the electrical wires then connect the hoses to the new pump with the pliers.
- 4). Replace the front panel onto the washing machine. Plug the power cord into the outlet and run the machine for a complete cycle, while empty, to test the pump.
