How to Decorate a Baroque Kitchen
- 1). Paint a decorative wall treatment in the space. Use bold colors reminiscent of jewelry, such as bright gold, silver, emerald or ruby. Add shimmer to the paint with a metallic gloss, or by stenciling damask or floral patterns over the paint color. Instead of paint, you can also hang wallpaper to make an instant statement in the space.
- 2). Couple traditional pieces with more modern furniture and accessories. In Baroque style, the details are what matter. If you have a decorative scrolling wallpaper, use a simple, clean-lined subway tile for the backsplash. This will help showcase the ornamentation of the wall treatment. If the countertops are a flat color, use glamorous accessories to add interest.
- 3). Use accessories to tie the space together. For example, an ornate lighting fixture will work well in a Baroque space, so will decorative mirrors and art prints hung on the wall. Hide utilitarian objects whenever possible, such as toasters and other small kitchen appliances. Instead, showcase metallic accessories on the countertops of the kitchen.
- 4). Install hardware on the kitchen cabinets. Cabinets should be chosen that feature decorative inlays, but if this is not possible, flat cabinet doors can be made decorative and ornate with the right hardware. Scrolled, metallic hardware on painted wood cabinets will enhance the dramatic feel of the kitchen.
- 5). Hang window treatments that feature graphic, traditional patterns. It is common in Baroque spaces to feature a few colors in various prints and textures around the space. Window treatments should be chosen to highlight your color choices and add interest.
