The Five Greatest Kevin Costner Films

Kevin Costner was one of those actors who had a likability that couldn't miss.
For most of the 1990s, he was the face of outrage (in JFK) and clowning around (Bull Durham), but he was always the face we wanted in a leading man.
Here are the five best Kevin Costner movies of all time now playing on satellite TV.
5.
Field of Dreams.
"If you build it, they will come," whispers a mysterious voice from the cornfields of an Iowa farm.
Costner's character takes it to mean a baseball field and discovers the ghosts of baseball past -- as well as much about his own father -- while doing the unthinkable.
A mystical film about innocence, family and the urges lurking within a society, Field of Dreams is a must for any baseball fan, or for any Kevin Costner fan who want to see him in his prime.
This film is in heavy rotation on satellite TV.
4.
Bull Durham.
Another film that showcased the athleticism of Costner, Bull Durham turned out to be the funniest baseball movie ever made (sorry, Major League).
Featuring Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, this Ron Shelton film is a hilarious look at the minor leagues and the many dramas that surround players before they hit the big time.
Satellite TV comedy networks still find this film irresistible.
3.
The Untouchables.
One of the Costner blockbusters, this Brian De Palma film had it all: Robert De Niro as Al Capone, Costner as Elliot Ness and a supporting cast that had Andy Garcia as well as Sean Connery in tow.
The Prohibition Era crime story (screenplay by David Mamet) has many memorable scenes, but you don't need to think too hard: it's good vs.
evil all the way.
Soak up the work of Costner and Connery, who took home the Oscar for Best Supportng Actor.
Featured on HBO and Showtime in HD.
2.
Dances With Wolves.
Did anyone see this coming? Costner showed critics and fans alike that he was not only a serious actor but also a competent, compelling filmmaker.
Dances With Wolves is an epic of the American West and a moving film any way you slice it, directed by and starring Costner, who received the Best Director Oscar and the Best Picture statue for his production.

1.
JFK.
One of the best films of the '90s, JFK was the film that started the great JFK assassination debate and asked the questions that had a whole nation talking.
In a character that had a little bit of Elliot Ness in him, Costner's portrayal of Jim Garrison drove the action for this dense, engrossing Oliver Stone film.
Also starring Joe Pesci, Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones and Sissy Spacek.
