- 1). Search for the manufacturer's instructions for your individual baby bed that you purchased. If you cannot find the instructions, call the store where you purchased the bed and get the phone number for customer support or search online for the bed manufacturing company and call customer support.
- 2). Gather the bolts and instructions for the bed once you receive or find the instructions. There should be no extra parts. If you find extra screws or bolts, contact customer support or the store where you purchased the bed.
- 3). Follow the instructions on your bed, as all cribs have variations. Most cribs today take around 45 minutes to put together and assembly is easy.
- 4). Disinfect the mattress and inspect it for sharp springs or factory nails before placing it into the crib.
- 5). Measure the width of the distance between the slats in the crib. For safety, the slats should not be more than 2 3/8 inches apart.
- 6). Place a mattress pad, a snug crib sheet and tie a bumper pad inside of the crib. The infant will not need a pillow or a large comforter. A light blanket will suffice. It is not safe to put stuffed animals into a crib with an infant.
- 7). Check all of the corners, bolts, screws and edges to make sure that everything is secure.
- 8). Check the side rail that moves up and down to make sure it slides gently but that it securely locks in place when up.
