How to Plant on Cheesecloth

    • 1). Dig out your garden site to hide the cheesecloth beneath a layer of soil. Mark the edges of the garden, then dig up the top 10 inches of soil in the entire site and lay it aside. Remove any weeds, rocks, roots or grass to eliminate future growth.

    • 2). Measure your garden site with a measuring tape and cut lengths of cheesecloth with scissors to cover the site. Lay the cheesecloth in the hole that you dug to line the garden bed. This cloth will keep weeds from growing up into the garden.

    • 3). Amend the soil while you have it available. Add quick-draining garden soil and organic compost until you have a mix of half garden soil and half amendments, to give your flowers or vegetables quick drainage and full organic nutrition in their bed.

    • 4). Shovel the amended soil back into the garden site, on top of the cheesecloth, and plant as usual.
