How to Repair Cracks in Concrete Foundation

    • 1). Remove any damaged concrete from the crack and then clean the area with a pH-neutral cleanser. Clear any dirt or debris from within the crack using a wire brush, and then wash the crack out using a water hose. Pat the area dry with a towel before routing the crack.

    • 2). Route the crack out from the surface of the concrete with a crack chaser blade. Routing the crack opens the crack so that filling it in is easier and the patch has more to hold onto. Open the crack with the blade to a depth of one-inch, creating near-vertical walls along the sides of the crack extending slightly wider at the bottom of the crack than at the top. The slight ledge undercutting the crack ensures that when the patch dries solid it will not slip from the crack.

    • 3). Clear any debris from the crack with the wire brush and then flush out the concrete chips from the cutting using the water hose. Pat the crack dry with the towel and then allow it to dry completely before continuing.

    • 4). Apply a layer of epoxy gel to the bottom and sides of the crack using a brush. Cover the entire interior surface of the crack with the gel. The gel creates a bonding surface between the old concrete of the foundation and the patch material. Allow the adhesive to dry slightly until it's no longer wet but remains tacky to the touch.

    • 5). Inject the crack with epoxy resin, filling the crack completely. Scrape the top of the crack with a putty knife to even the resin with the concrete surface. Allow the resin to cure for the time suggested by the manufacturer.

    • 6). Level the surface of the resin even with the concrete surface using a concrete grinder. Sweep the dust from the area and then seal the patch using a concrete sealant to waterproof the newly patched surface.
