104 42

    Designation

    • The ATI 32 MB Rage Pro 128 AGP fits into the Accelerated Graphics Port of a desktop personal computer, thus the "AGP" suffix. It is particularly compatible with an AGP that provides a transfer rate of up 1,066 MB per second and a 1.5-V operational voltage. The "32 MB" designation stands for the amount of built-in memory it has for its video capabilities, which are based on Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory architecture. The number "128" stands for 128 bits, which is the size of the collection of wires through which the card transmits data.

    Video Output and RAMDAC

    • Each ATI 32 MB Rage Pro 128 AGP has a 15-pin Video Graphics Array (VGA) connector, which provided the interface to hook up the computer monitor for an analog visual display. Besides the VGA output, the card provides an S-Video output and an RCA video connector. Also included is a Random Access Memory Digital-to-Analog Converter, or RAMDAC, for processing the color display of the monitor, which it performs at a 300 MHz rate.

    Resolutions

    • The highest graphics display resolution that the ATI 32 MB Rage Pro 128 AGP supports is the Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array's 1,920-by-1,200 pixels at an 85 Hz frequency and with a 16.7-million color display in 24-bit depth. Other resolutions that the card supports include VGA's 640-by-480 pixels and the 800-by-600-pixel standard of its more advanced Super VGA sibling; and Super eXtended Graphics Array's 1,280-by-1,024 pixels and Ultra eXtended Graphics Array's 1,600 by 1,200, which fall under the same extended graphics array umbrella as the WUXGA.

    System Requirements

    • Besides the AGP port, the desktop PC that the ATI 32 MB Rage Pro 128 AGP goes into must at least run Microsoft's Windows 98, 2000 or Millennium Edition operating system. It must also have at least an Intel Pentium III microprocessor.
