If you can't jet off to a tropical island or incredible resort city this summer, how are you going to plan to relax and recuperate? There's the option of trying to recreate the same environment in your home or apartment, but sitting there spritzing yourself with a fan while wading in a kid's pool just doesn't cut it for most adults.
The better option is to soothe your soul with entertainment.
After all, flipping on the television and surfing channels while the air conditioning is turned up and the fans are going at full speed is the sort of thing that will keep you endlessly entertained, even if you can't afford to jet away to Cabo or the Hamptons.
And with HDTV sets so affordable these days, you can get the right kind of entertainment at home for a price that's not going to be a problem.
If you're not sure how to occupy your time beating the heat indoors, it's definitely a great idea to consider those famous and not-so-famous films that focus on faraway beaches or idyllic resorts.
Not sure where to start in your search? Here are six great beach movies for you to watch on satelliteTV this summer, even if your travel plans aren't quite what you had initially hoped for.
6.
Cast Away.
Because you won't be as sad that you can't go to the beach if you're watching a man who can't get away from his beach making best friends with a volleyball.
Plus, all of the time that you're spending watching the film in the comfort of your home will actually have you more appreciative of your trappings, and not yearning for a more isolated locale to spend your hotter months.
5.
Beach Blanket Bingo.
If you're talking about the 1960s, then you can't leave out the countless films that involved guys and girls dancing at the beach while their favorite bands played in between catching waves.
While it's nowhere near the level of HDTV entertainment that today's teen capers entail, this classic staring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon is always a fun pick.
4.
The Beach.
Because you will be really happy that you didn't accidentally end up staying at some hostel with overly enthusiastic people who decide that it's worthwhile to try to one-up your travel plans.
A deterrent for anyone who thinks that jetting off to a private beach with spoiled yuppies who've formed their own community could ever end in anything but murders and shark attacks.
3.
Point Break.
Because undercover surfing cops make a great enough story as it is, without taking into account that the two leads in this classic film are Keanu Reeves and the rather unhinged Gary Busey, before he completely lost it.
Definitely somewhere on satellite TV at any given point in the week.
2.
South Pacific.
Regardless of the era of film that you think you are a fan of, no one can resist the charms of this fabulous and classic musical, including the timeless ode to getting rid of Mr.
Wrong, "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair.
" 1.
The Lost Boys.
Anyone can make a movie about the beach, and anyone can make a movie about vampires, but to have the brains to combine the two in the 1980s and feature a beachside classic amusement park is something else entirely.
