How to Paint Over Linoleum
- 1). Scrub the linoleum with dishwashing detergent using a plastic brush. Rinse the surface using a mop. Clean all soapy residue, or the primer will not stick. Allow the linoleum to dry.
- 2). Abrade the linoleum to stimulate adhesion by scouring it with a palm sander. Stop sanding when the linoleum feels slightly rough.
- 3). Cover areas on and adjacent to the linoleum you do not want painted with blue painter's tape.
- 4). Apply a coat of acrylic latex primer to the abraded linoleum using a roller stocked with a nap roller cover. Allow the primer to dry for two hours.
- 5). Clean all painting tools with water.
- 6). Mix epoxy resin and catalyst in a 5-gallon bucket. Apply a coat of epoxy over the primed linoleum using the roller stocked with a 3000 roller cover. Allow the epoxy to dry and cure for six hours before using the floor.
