How to Make Fun Birthday Invitations
- 1). Choose your paper. If you plan to print invitations from home, the thickness and size of the invite will be determined by the capabilities of your printer. If you plan to write, stamp, or sticker the words onto the invites, your paper choices are even more numerous. Some possibilities for a fun and textured invitations include handmade paper, which often has pieces of pulp still visible, and pearlescent paper, which has a shiny surface.
- 2). Design a text layout. While the traditional invite consists of either a single, unfolded card with text on the front or a folded page with most of the details on the inside, possibilities for fun and unusual styles are endless. Try a long and narrow folded card when the party information is displayed as an acrostic or a circular card with text wrapped from the outer edge inward. With a handmade card, you could even write the text backwards so that it can only be "decoded" when help up to a mirror.
- 3). Add complexity with a paper punch. These little devices, commonly used in scrapbooking, have developed far beyond the basic circular cut. You can choose to punch a small shape like a cake or flower out of the corner of your invitation, or you might want to go even further. Punching through the front of a folded invitation to reveal part of the words or pictures inside can create a little mystery that your guest-to-be will reveal by opening the card fully.
- 4). Embellish with stick-on objects. A store specializing in scrapbooking can be a tremendous resource as you select these finishing touches. A young girl's birthday invitation might call for adhesive gemstones, while a safari or animal themed invitation could include stickers with a furry texture. These three-dimensional elements could also be used to create a border around the outside of the card or as bullet points beside the key party details.
